Whispered Wisdom Hypnotherapy FAQ

There are many questions we are frequently asked about hypnosis and hypnotherapy, so we’ve taken a little time to jot down some brief answers which we hope you will find useful.

What is hypnosis and hypnotherapy?

“Hypnosis is a state of natural deep, relaxation and concentration. It helps you to use the power of your mind and your creative imagination to find new ways of dealing with problems and to alter unwanted patterns of behaviour. The hypnotic state enables you to access the ability of the subconscious mind to resolve deeply rooted issues.” – Australian Hypnotherapists Association.

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic application of hypnosis to bring about desired changes in sensations, perceptions, feelings, thoughts and behaviours.

What is the subconscious mind?

There are 3 levels of the mind, the conscious mind, the subconscious mind and the unconscious mind.

Your conscious mind reacts to patterns and established perceptions held within the subconscious and unconscious minds. The subconscious mind stores memories, reasoning capacity, understanding, judgment, beliefs, creativity and physical skill. The unconscious mind provides an emotional intelligence filter between the subconscious and conscious mind.

On average, clients require between 3 and 5 sessions. Depending on individual progress, motivation and desire to change, this may need to be extended. Appointments are usually weekly, however some clients come on a fortnightly or monthly basis depending on their circumstances.

How much does hypnotherapy cost?

Sessions last approximately 1 hour and cost $90 per session. Our rate is extremely competitive, with the average cost for hypnosis falling between $125 and $250 per hour. Whispered Wisdom Hypnotherapy chooses to apply a lower hourly rate because we are local to Muswellbrook and understand our community. Very few private health insurers provide rebates for clinical hypnosis and clinical hypnotherapy, so we deliver up front lower prices.

What should I look for in a Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist?

Always ask your therapist about their qualifications and experience. A professional will also hold relevant insurances and first aid certification and where working with children, necessary clearances. Membership to a professional association is not mandatory in the hypnosis profession. Most importantly you should feel comfortable with your therapist.
